Charlotte Peace

After going to countless graduate fashion shows, interview and meeting with designers, we are truely fortunate to have found a group of expressive and insightful young designers. One of them is Charlotte Scaplehorn from Bath Spa University. Here is a little introduction from her:

Charlotte Peace is a label focused on making high-quality garments with a strong emphasis on wearable fashion. One of my main goals as a designer is to create perfectly made pieces that flatter the figure.

My education in design took place in the City of Bath. I achieved a Diploma in 2006, and in 2009, at 21, I graduated from Bath Spa University with a BA in Fashion Design.

Whilst at university, my skills in cutting and construction developed to a very high standard. It soon became clear that I would always put a lot of time and care into the production of collections. With this in mind, I didn't want to just focus on design, or just cutting. I wanted to remain involved in the whole process from start to finish. The only way this could happen was for me to start my own lable.

My first collections is taken from my Graduate Collection. The outfits take inspiration from traditional armour and space suits. Using features from these sources, I have created a strong look - a feminine take on a subject dominated by masculinity.

One of the dresses in my collection, the 'Space Dress' is directly from my university collection. I feel that this dress was my most sucessful piece and I wanted to show it to a wider audience. It perfectly encapsulates the theme of my collection and I believe it to be the most versatile piece. It can be a daytime or formal dress, with the endless option of accessorising, and I'm personally very proud of it.

Where do our designers come from?

Ever since I started telling family and friends I was involved in the start-up of a Online Fashion Retail company, a question has come up rather frequently
Where do you find your designers?
So here in this blog I'm going to tell you one of the stories of how we found our designers.

June 2009
A friend once told me that every year there is a week of fashion shows - Graduate Fashion Week - showcasing collections of Fashion Design finalists from universities all over the country. Yes, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. So this year I decided to go and do a bit of scouting! ;)

First off was the University of Northampton show! Here’s where we found Anna Burachevskaya! Here is one of the outfits that caught our eyes!

Now wouldn’t you want to wear that puffy skirt with the big purple ribbon to a party and stand out from a crowd? What’s more special with this outfit is that you wouldn’t be able to find it anywhere else – it’s unique!! And Anna was just finishing uni then. Now that’s talent!!
So then the week just went on with more fashion shows and more impressive outfits. It was a shame I couldn’t have gone to all of the shows or post all the pictures to show you all of the other amazing designs now (some tasters for you below though!) but then I did pick up loads of CVs and cards from other designers – whom I got in touch afterwards and now they’re designing for us! The clothes are as unique and fabulous – I promise! So if you’re as interested in Anna’s clothes as I am then do come back to this site often and we’ll show you her latest collection and where to get them!! And of course our many more other designers!!! I’ll leave you to drool for now……

The beginning of STUNNZ

Being a group of professional online shoppers, we noticed there are two things that would make the world a greater place

1. While half of the clothes we get from online stores are just what we want, the other half either do not fit or look nothing like the photo. Buying clothes online become a test of luck. We understand it is impossible to try outfits online, but with today techonology we can surely do better than this!

2. We are all victims of mass production.
Everytime we buy something from high-street fashion stores, we find ourselves at risk of running into the unfortunate and embarassing situation - wearing the same clothes as your friends or, even worse, colleagues. This is certainly every woman's worst fear.

That was how we came up with the idea of STUNNZ - our ideal online fashion store, where selection process is more interactive and clothes are as fabulous as high-street fashion but more special.

We know this sounds too good to be true, but we refused to give up without trying. Our first and perhaps the most important step was to find young but talented designers, and this led us to graduate designer fashion shows.
