This year 14th Feb was not only Valentines Day, it was also Chinese New Year- we have officially entered the year of tiger!
Here are some traditions of CNY which are still followed by most Chinese these days:
1. You should clean your home two days before new year's eve.
2. On new year's eve, the whole family have dinner together. After dinner, go to flower market to buy flowers as New Year decoration.
Peach blossom is a popular choice because it will improve your relationships, mostly love, with others. (just see how pink the flowers are!)
3. If you are married you need to give red packets (red envelopes with money) to younger friends and relatives.
4. Chinese new year day is the day to visit senior relatives, pay your respect, and ofcourse, receive your red packets. (that's a big temptation right?)
5. Like 5th November, Chinese new year is the time for fire work.
The photo shows the firework performance on 2nd day of new year at Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong. Isn't it fabulous?
6. You should wear new clothes and shoes on new year day, which gives us another excuse for shopping!
7. However you are not suppose to buy new shoes during the first month of new year because it will bring you bad luck (one whole month without new shoes??!?!?! NOW we call this superstitious because who can resist if Selfridges is on sale?)
